About twenty years ago I read a paperback book about a team of astronauts who went into space and came back to Earth three hundred years later due to the time-dilation effect. When they returned to France, they found that the population of the Earth had shrunk to several hundred people because the widespread use of a hormone-based beauty creme and similar products had rendered nearly everyone sterile. Society had devolved into barbarism and the crew struggled to survive.

The crew first began to figure out what had happened when they saw posters or billboards in the Paris subway advertising the beauty creme.

Unfortunately I sold or gave away my copy. It was printed in English, but the author may have been French. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could tell me the exact name of the title and the author so I can search for a copy. It really was a cracking good read.

Was it "The Return" by Richard Maynard?

Yes, that's it!

I thought it was "The Return," but there were so many books by that name that I finally gave up.

Thank you Sir!!!!
