My wife got her degree in mechanical engineering, but subordinated her career to my USAF time. Once the kids were both in middle school, nobody wanted a mechanical engineer years out of college so she got into IT. When we moved here, she got a job with a company that my mother did business with. The owner is a tool. He kept the pay of his employees barely competitive salaries while paying himself mid six figures. He would explain year after year that there was not money for raises, then talk about how he had flown a p51 Mustang. So after 12years of being a model employee, 10 years since her last raise while the demands on her weekends and evenings increased, she quit. At the time she was the second longest tenured employee. She gave them two weeks and as much documentation as possible, but the boss would not even talk to her as she left.
Anyway, the company she went to has liked her. She got a great performance report, had a meeting with the CEO and now won a corporate award that includes a trip for 2 to panama.

Good for her! It's heartening to here someone being appreciated in IT for a change. Too bad it took her changing her job to get it.

A glimmer of hope.

Nice. Too many 'tools' out there, raking in their big bucks at the expense of their staff.

It sucks that most US work places treat there employees like this and the bosses get bonuses and higher pay for going it.

Glad to hear that there is at least one good (from the
employees' perspective) manager out there.

Congratulations, well deserved.
Don't forget your Yellow Fever vaccines -not required if coming directly from US, but recommended depending on where in Panama you are going – good for ten years.Get your Hep A for sure – second booster will protect for lifetime. Typhoid if you get adventurous with food or stay in rural areas. Malaria in certain areas – Might want to check with a travel clinic first -not covered by all insurance, however.

Awesome….when I worked for the company with "Uncle Fester", the kids and their trophy wives used it like their own personal ATM….
