One to be aware of if you were looking to visit the Imperial War Museum in the first half of 2014.

From the Imperial War Museum website iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-london

'IWM London is undergoing a major building redevelopment, transforming our museum to mark the Centenary of the First World War, and on 6 January the museum will close until July 2014.'

A most excellent place to spend a day while in London. Was lucky enough to do so on a Bank holiday years ago (no crowd).

f you are going to London for the first time and are interested in Military History the Imperial War Museum is a tourist necessity as important as the Tower of London or British Museum

If you are planning a trip to London and was looking forward to your first visit to the IWM, I would suggest that you postpone your trip until it reopens. It is that good.

The Army museum is pretty nice also and if I recall a nice walk from the nearest tube stop.

Agree about the IWM – but you could make do with the NAM (Sloane Square Tube), RAF Museum Hendon (Colindale Tube), and HMS Belfast (Tower Hill Tube).

That's a shame. It ties in well with my annual pilgrimage to Salute.

As a side note, the 20th century galleries of the Royal Navy museum in Portsmouth is also closed right now for a new exhibit called "Hear My Story" to be opened next year. Both me and my wife was disappointed to found it closed when we visited in October.
