Hi

Here's a question.

Over the weekend I prepared an advance listing on Ebay for a DBA army. A couple of hours later I got an email from them saying that 'International Listing' had been removed because it might in some way breach some local law somewhere …. The army is Nabateans, from the successor era to the point at which it became a Roman province. The text is pasted below, unaltered, and as you can see it contains no mention of any modern political or cultural entity, and no mention of any religion.

Can anyone tell me what might have triggered the reaction ?

Pete

*************

This auction is for a 15mm DBA FOG DBM Nabatean Army Book II/22a 250-106BC

It consists of -

1 x Knight/Cavalry (General)

1 x Light Horse

1 x 4 Blade

2 x 3 Auxilia

2 x 4 Bow

5 x 3 Bow

7 x Psiloi

This is the full list in the DBA book, lots of bows, a nice unusual little ancient/successor army.

The figures are by mostly by Donnington, and and all have been based on 2mm laser cut MDF, flocked and double varnished.

As with all my auctions, I try to post within 48 hours of receiving payment.

blade…bow….cut

You can't sell blades/weapons internationally. That would be my guess.

Bd, Bw etc should be fine.

Hilariously random removal by Ebay

You can't sell blades/weapons internationally.

Yes you can. Having purchased some swords from over the pond I will have to disagree.

It may however, be against ebay policy.
But ebay isn't the law……..yet.

Yeah, I've bought switchblades from Italy without issue. But they weren't through Ebay.

Guthroth15 Oct 2013 1:33 p.m. PST

I don't think it's the blades issue, I have sold plenty of DBA armies with Blade and/or Bow in the description. This is the text of their email -

Because the laws and eBay policies vary by country, sometimes items that can be listed in your country can't be listed internationally. It's also possible that the listing itself violated an eBay policy in another country. In situations like this, we automatically remove the International Site Visibility feature from the listing.

We're sorry for the inconvenience this causes.

Perhaps "Nabateans" was misconstrued as a racial slur?

Is 'psiloi' a swearword in some foreign language?
