Well let the ranting begin. I enjoyed the Frank Miller comic and the stylistic adaptation for film. This; however, just looks over the top. Probably go see it anyway to disengage my brain for a while. YouTube link |

It's definatley passed from vaguely historical into high fantasy, but you're not going to get too many trireme battles on the big screen. |

Ugh, looks like a movie to watch with the sound down and a finger on the fast forward button. |

Whitemanticore may well have the gist of it. A nice mindless romp, perfect for relaxing on a spring afternoon. IMO, I'd love to see something Roman in this style. Hollywood Romans in lorica segmentata doing nasty things to hordes of barbarians. Historically implausible, but still fun to watch. |

Why do they keep making movies based on our wargames? |

I find it funny that 300 or the sparatacus series would only last about 20 minutes if it wasn't for all the slowmotion. Seriouly the spartacus seriues is 15 minutes of naked ladies, then 40 minutes of slowmotion fighting. if they did all the fighting at regular speed it would only last 5 minutes.

Yegads. Well, they're not holding back
charging a ship on horseback? I loved the first one, so I suspect I can get in the proper mood for this

I always think of 300 as being the way the old granfer sitting by the fire told it to his grandkids. He might have just maybe embellished it a little bit |

300 is based on a comic, based on a 60's Sword and Sandal movie of a historical event. |

Given the fact that I'm a sucker for sword and sandal movies I'll probably go see this. I even thought 'Immortals' wasn't half bad. |

I will go and see it! I like the first one!! Mike |

i liked the first one, too. i always though of it as a mythic tale about the 300. In a time where storytellers were the only entertainment, i am sure they would tell the myth and not the real fact |

Taking another look at the trailer, and having to agree with the sage commentary about the mythic cycle, I think this may be the telling of the Battle of Salamis. I noted that the main heroic Greek character appears to not be carrying a shield with the Lambda symbol, i.e. not a Spartan. I wonder if this is suppose to be Themistocles? Anyway, yes I will go see it. I will have a large popcorn and a soda, sit back and enjoy, and contemplate how I could do it in a miniature war game for a convention. |
Pictors Studio | 14 Jun 2013 1:47 p.m. PST |
I think it is supposed to be about Artemisium and Salamis and I'm pretty sure Themistocles will be the main Greek character, but I think there will be a fair number of Persian characters as well. I'm in. |

Eva Green is in it, that tempts me to go see it. Think the Persians will have a rhino on one of their ships? |
