Following the BBC announcement tonight saying Matt Smith is on his way, its time to start the fun! Will they pick a woman, a black guy, or someone older than the last three Doctors? How does John Hurt fit into all this! You tell me! |

Hear here! Tennant was the best. |

Sean Bean as a fill-in stopgap Doctor.. He will get killed in the first season, and they can take their time choosing his successor. Kind of like John Paul I, but he just lasted a month. |

Well who is popular in Great Britain right now? Do you think they would change the sex and or ethnicity. I know it would never be an American(and I never would want that Dr Who is strictly a Brit) :) |
| GarrisonMiniatures | 02 Jun 2013 12:39 a.m. PST |
Simon Pegg. He played the Master, but Romana once changed to look like another person so there is a precedent. It would also open up a potential story line of them being related. Plus he has the character to pull it off. |

To be honest I'm happy to just sit back and see what happens – I'd never heard of Smith and he's been bloody brilliant, even though he had massive shoes to fill coming after Tennant. Benedict Cumberbatch would be excellent, but has said no in the past I think (Sherlock and Who would be a lot to hold down anyway) and I like the Simon Pegg idea, but to be honest their casting's been consistently excellent, so I don't mind just waiting and seeing
. :-) |

(And there are spoilers out there about how John Hurt fits in – you can google them if you *really* want to know, but best not to answer it here. NO SPOILERS PLEASE.) |

Actually, there was an iten in the original series that casts a lot of doubt about how many doctors there have been. Don't remember the title of it, but the Doctor was some kind of god who built a computer – memory vague – and one scene shoed past doctors on a massive computer screen. Lots of different Doctors
lots of unknown/previously unmentioned different Doctors

. David Tennant is Scottish but didn't use his real accent to play Dr Who. Simon Pegg would make a great Doctor! I don't remember him as the Master – was that before John Simm? |
Doms Decals | 02 Jun 2013 8:29 a.m. PST |
He wasn't the Master, but "The Editor" in The Long Game. |

Don't we have to have an older Doctor to resolve the situation with Alex Kingston's character? Or has this happened and I missed it? Granted, they may not feel compelled to follow that thread, or it could depend on availability of the actor. |

I reckon the new Doctor should be Simon Pegg. With Nick Frost making an excellent assistant and then we could get away from all these soppy relationships with female assistants of late. |
| Trajanus | 02 Jun 2013 1:50 p.m. PST |
What and have a soppy relationship between Pegg and Frost instead? |
| Trajanus | 02 Jun 2013 1:53 p.m. PST |
Could well be someone out of left field again. (like Smith) The shooting schedule takes a big chunk out of an actors time each year, which more established names may not be able to make. |

Just had a thought – given half the UK acting profession is/was in Game of Thrones (not just Bean) there's a good number of them that won't see Season 4! :o) |

Don't we have to have an older Doctor to resolve the situation with Alex Kingston's character? They've broken the pattern of going in opposite directions with her last appearance, so my guess is that Matt Smith's exit might be Alex Kingston's exit. Can't say I understand the appeal of Simon Pegg, he was ok as the editor but not particularly outstanding. I would be surprised if it is an established, big name actor, just because of the money. |

Martin Clunes is busy with another "doctor", playing in and producing "Doc Martin". He would be good, though! |

I like some of the idea re the older actors, eg Simon Pegg, or Hugh Laurie. But the need to keep the new demographic. It will be someone young and cute who can be a sex symbol. I've just peeved Matt Smith is leaving so soon. He has been my favourite Doctor since Tom Baker. |

I've just peeved Matt Smith is leaving so soon. He has been my favourite Doctor since Tom Baker. Actually by the time he is done, he'll have been the Doctor for about the same amount of time ('10-'13, 44 episodes) as David Tennant ('06-'09, 47 episodes), and longer than many of the original Doctors, many of them only did 3 year stints. Maybe it just seems short because he's "current"? |

I thought Matt Smith was a very good Doctor, I'll be sad to see him go. David Tennant was alright but stuck it out a bit too long. I suppose Tom Baker making a comeback is too much to hope for? |

So Jenna-Louise Coleman (Clara) is Richard Madden's girl friend. He won't be doing Season 4 of GoT, on the grounds that Robb Stark just got rubbed out. Sooooooooo? Only saying but maybe, you never know? |
| DsGilbert | 24 Jun 2013 8:05 a.m. PST |
I like the idea of a big name for one season. Sean Bean would be fun, and he can keep his streak alive of dying in the end (yes I know it's a regeneration). For you Tennant fans, he's still around. His copy is in the other dimension with Rose. |
