Well I just found out today, that I am getting laid off from the high school where I have worked as an aide for the last 22 years. It seems that since enrollment and funding are down for the next school year they decided to trim "excess positions" from the staff. The good news is, that they have the money to finish the renovation project that moves the office 12 meters down the hallway. I am not bitter with the people that I work with. I think this decision came down from the school board office. It does vex me though that they will lay off people like myself and others that probably save them millions per year in reduced vandalism, so they can spend the money they save on our salaries, to repaint and remodel someones office. I wonder about their priorities. Cheers.

Well a bit of an update. I was at a union meeting tonight. Apparently I am in somewhat of a unique conundrum. I am the only person in the district that still holds this position. They are effectively dissolving it at the end of the school year. Normally I would have had the option of bumping someone with lower seniority with a similar job. Since a similar job no longer exists. the Union rep is going to check with the human resources manager to see if I might be able to bump into another job classification. Either that or I might be able to take a severance package. We will have to see. Cheers.
