Local bookstore is having a moving sale and a couple of the books were there on sale but I wasn't sure about getting them – I skipped them wanting to find a bit more about the series. They had; The Bone Hunters The Crippled God Never heard of the series, any good? Subjective question I know. Do they read well out of order or do you really need to start from the beginning? Thanks DZT |

I started with "Gardens of the Moon"; even that one took some figuring out as the author drops you right into the action – no explanation of the setting, who is at war with whom or why, and most frustrating, no descriptions of the various non-human races. Despite that, I enjoyed the first few books, got hooked by the characters and storytelling, but gradually lost interest in the series. I'd recommend starting with the earlier books in the series. Even though each book seems to focus on brand new characters, it's hard enough to figure out the story, setting, history, geography as it is, without missing the little info available from the earlier books. It's a daunting series, not for casual reading! My opinions only, of course, others may vary. |

I enjoyed the series I quite like his style of writing but I would suggest getting it from the 1st one that basically sets out the history, the other books then fill in the history of some of the characters you met in the fist book how they got to the point in the book you met them in and where/what they did next. For example in the 1st book you meet two fighters at a campfire in the desert and they wander off in another book it follows them through there story up to that point and where they were going to. For me it was similar to reading "The Wizards and the Warriors" by Hugh Cook who did a similar thing 1st book was the general history/story line the other books followed the other characters up to the point they were in the 1st book and what they did later. I hope I made myself clear (as Mud) |
