Looks like I have a perfect opportunity to tour the Waterloo Battlefield. Is it worth the time? How long should it take?

Defintely worth it.

How long's a piece of string? If you're really into it, you could spend days there. First time I went there I arrived before dawn and didn't stop walking around the place until it got dark.

I took my Dad there last week – we saw the panorama painting and went up the Lion's Butt (!) which collectively took about an hour, then had lunch and a beer for another hour then walked out from the visitor centre to Hougoumont, around Hougoumont and across the fields back to the start, which took us about 90 minutes, then drove around for another hour to take in the eastern side of the battlefield, Plancenoit Church and La Belle Alliance.

All in all about 3.5 to 4 hours. My Dad saw all he wanted to see in that time and felt he'd seen 'everything'. I could happily have spent double that time there without being bored, despite having been there twice before.
