With St. Patrick's Day approaching, the supermarkets and restaurants are gearing up. One major restaurant chain has sent out an email: Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with us March 16th and 17th and enjoy our delicious Corned Beef & Cabbage, Dublin Prime Rib or our Killarney Grilled Trio*. * sirloin tips, grilled chicken, and St Louis ribs (!) They're also featuring McKay's Sampler (Boneless Buffalo Wings, Potato Skins, and Fried Mozzarella), Emerald Isle Shrimp (raw shrimp with cocktail sauce), the Stout BBQ Brisket Sandwich (corned beef sandwich and french fries), and Shamrock Brownie Pie (triple chocolate brownie, cool mint silk, chocolate mint cookie pieces and chocolate ganache with whipped cream). I never thought of shrimp as "Irish food"
The local supermarket has a big cooler full of corned beef brisket, and a display with 'Irish' ravioli (mix of green and yellow ravioli pasta)! |

On our visit to Ireland last year we saw prawns on the menu many times. Some may, like me, consider prawns large shrimp. I did see shrimp too. I ordered prawns in Scotland. When the plate came I was stared at by a half a dozen very large whole prawns. Terry |

Elmo just bough a brisket and I need to start corning it tonite. I don't mind "fusion" foods as they often taste quite good. Guiness BBQ sauce, corned beef, cabbage and potato pizza, etc. Actual Irish food tends to be a lot like gray boiled English food. |

Each year on the 1st weekend in March, the North Texas Irish Festival is held at Fair Park in Dallas; while my kids, their SO's & I listen to the music & peruse the vendors' displays, my wife prepares corned beef, cabbage, taters, carrots & soda bread with mustard & cheddar cheese, for our dinner. We wash it down with Guinness & those who choose can have Bushmill's Black Label as well. That's our version of Irish-American style food. |
