One of my computers was hit with this (kids downloading everything they can see… *sheesh*). Luckily, there was a fast patch I had from a thumbdrive…
But they lost most of their stuff (it was on 'their' computer…)

I got hit with that a few weeks ago – first time I've had any virus problems – seemingly it was new enough that my AV programme didn't spot / know how to deal with it. Fortunately it was a reasonably straightforward fix without losing any files, as Malwarebytes can handle it with no apparent problems:

Pull the plug on the internet / switch off your wi-fi,
restart the PC in safe mode,
reconnect the internet (it won't get hijacked while in safe),
download Malwarebytes,
disconnect the internet again,
and then just set Malwarebytes loose on it.

I have not seen that one yet. But I am sure I will soon. Working IT at a university I have learned that people will click on the most wonderful things.
