What's the best dedicated (i.e., only for that subject) home-improvement forum in your opinion? I'm looking to join 1 or 2, but the ones I've seen so far are either advertising forums ("This forum is sponsored by X brand, which oddly enough is the solution to every question posted") or have too many of the kind of idiot that answers a question about plumbing or such by posting, "Have you contacted a professional plumber for advice? Try the yellow pages for plumbers in your area."

Haven't found one so far, let me know if you do. Personally I'm lucky enough to have friends in the business plus some personal experience. Also don't forget your local library. One of the best books I've ever read was "How to Fix Damn Near Everything". Doesn't have all the answers but it helps you ask the right questions.

I haven't found one like that. I use the FamilyHandyman.com and they cover a wide range of topics. I think they might be sponsored by Home Depot, but I really don't care because that's where I usually shop anyway.
