I miss Uncle Einar

Jakse37506 Jun 2012 7:47 a.m. PST

A sad day for sure. His writings surely shaped my life.

jpattern206 Jun 2012 8:04 a.m. PST

My absolute favorite author, bar none.

I first discovered him when my 4th grade teacher loaned me her copy of "A Medicine for Melancholy." "Dark They Were and Golden-Eyed," "All Summer In a Day," "The Day It Rained Forever," "The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit" – Wow! Thank you, Mrs. Bass, for introducing me to Mr. Bradbury.

I own almost everything he's ever published, barring all of the expensive limited editions (and I own a couple of those, too). I've worn out several copies of "Something Wicked This Way Comes" and "Dandelion Wine," and my copies of "The Martian Chronicles" and "The Illustrated Man" are pretty well-worn, too.

RIP, sir, and thank you for all of the journeys. Mars is a little colder today.

My freshman English instructor at UT thanked me for introducing him to Bradbury's work many years ago. Hard to believe that he got that far without knowing of his work but in those days SciFi got no respect. Thanks for the great reads Ray and RIP.

Oddball06 Jun 2012 8:33 a.m. PST

Loved his writings. Thank you. Rest in peace.

One of my inspirations as a writer, and my aspiration has been to write as well as he did. RIP, Mr. Bradbury.

Something Wonderful This Way Came

Having been reading a lot of the Pulp Era's Weird Fiction by Lovecraft, Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, I was recently wondering if Ray Bradbury would be considered one of the few modern day Weird Fiction authors.

PatrickWR06 Jun 2012 9:41 a.m. PST

I still remember buying 'S Is For Space' and 'R Is For Rocket' off the discard shelf at my local library. Best 50 cents I ever spent.

Fahrenheit 451. A true classic from a great American (and world) author. His influence was so great that the 'Star Trek' universe named a lead-class starship after him:

I'm sure he, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke will have a lot to talk about. Godspeed, Mr. Bradbury, and thank you very, very much.

Farstar06 Jun 2012 10:49 a.m. PST

I'm sure he, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke will have a lot to talk about

Along with Heinlein, Anderson, Norton, and Zelazny. Not many of the Grandmasters left. The authors who populated the bookshelves of both new and used bookstores when I was growing up are almost all gone.

Who asked this joker06 Jun 2012 1:06 p.m. PST

Rest in peace Mr. Bradbury. Writing all the way up to the end, you had a great run. We should all be so lucky. Thanks for all of the fantastic stories.

BobTYW06 Jun 2012 6:03 p.m. PST

RIP Mr. Bradbury
Fahrenheit 451. was truly a classic, the movie as well.
You will be missed and your contribution will never be matched.

goragrad06 Jun 2012 8:24 p.m. PST

RIP.

One of the first authors I read. Gave a book report in 5th or 6th grade on 'Illustrated Man.'

Moved on to other authors, but still remember plots and stories.

Ditto the 'Fahrenheit 451' comments.

Cyrus the Great06 Jun 2012 9:37 p.m. PST

My favorite author. I've read all his works, but I still have a soft spot for this one.

Rest easy. And thanks.

jpattern207 Jun 2012 8:00 a.m. PST

Cyrus, one of my favorites of his books, too.

Viya Con Dios Ray. Many thanks for all you've done and given us. Ours is truly a poorer world this day because of your passing. However, it is much much richer for your having been here. Godspeed and God Bless Sir.

Fellow science fiction writer, Orson Scott Card, eulogizes Mr Bradbury:

jpattern208 Jun 2012 9:58 a.m. PST

Card is too great of an ass for me to care what he thinks about Bradbury.

Farstar08 Jun 2012 11:06 a.m. PST

It is, nonetheless, a nice tribute to Bradbury and his writing.

jpattern208 Jun 2012 11:22 a.m. PST

I'll take your word for it, Farstar. :)
