Hi folks, I've just tried to install my tried, true, and tested (and about 10+ years old) CorelDraw Graphics Suite 12 and failed my saving throw on Windows 7. A quick internet search shows CD 12 does not work with Vista/Win 7 (last o/s I had was Win XP). So
can anyone make a recommendation of any free drawing software that might do the same sort of stuff I've used Corel PhotoPaint for which is: * Resizing with our withour anti-aliaising * Gamma correction * Colour correction * Creation of gifs, including animated gifs * Masking in various shapes, including freehand * Masking by colour selection Those are the main things I do when massaging photos for my web sie down to a manageable file size (less that 150 kb) instead of just posting ridicuouslky huge 2 meg images. Thanks very much in advance for any suggestions, -- Tim |

GIMP is free and very good, and can do just about anything. gimp.org |

Graphic Workshop and GIF Construction Set both offer free "evaluation versions" – not sure how limited they are. I should add: GIMP does have a good rep though. |

Far be it for me to discourage anyone trying to stay up to date, but C12 will run in Windows 7 using compatability mode. I had to do that to pull info from some old files. |

I'm going to look at GMIP and porobably Gnome too, but Cory, what did you do? I tried comnpatibility mode as per link But these didn't work – I did not try the regedit approach. -- Tim |

If compatibility mode doesn't work you could use a virtual machine. Virtual PC has a seamless mode so you don't even have to launch the virtual system first. |
