Definitely food for thought.

Years ago, when I attended college, there was a steep path that led from the dormitories up to the main campus. The path also ran west-to-east, so that twice a day you were guaranteed to get the sun in your eyes as you walked the path.

My roommate noticed that people were unusually friendly to him when he walked the path to and from school – particularly young women, who would smile and say 'hello'.

He finally figured out the cause. As he walked the path, with the sun in his eyes, he would squint – which caused his mouth to rise at the edges. People thought he was smiling, and so they responded with smiles and greetings.
