I bought a mono headphone/mic set to plug into my phone. It uses the regular headphone jack (3.5mm I think).

But when I plugged it into my Droid X phone, the headphone didn't work at 1st. I played with it a bit & found that I couldn't push the jack all the way into the socket. If I pulled it out slightly, there was 1 specific spot where the headphone would work. OTOH, my regular stereo headphones work fine with the phone.

So, is this kind of "only works in 1 certain spot" to be expected when using a mono plug with a stereo socket? Or is there something wrong with the headphone? I'm trying to decide if I should return it & get the same kind, or pay the extra money & get the stereo ones.

I'm only planning on using it for phone calls, & not to listen to music, so don't really need stereo if I can get mono to work.

Thanks for your help

Does the mono headset have on or two black lines on it?
Most of the mono headsets still have a stereo (two lines) plug on it so that it fits properly in the phone jack.

I have a stereo and mono headset that both work fine in my blackberry (well the mono one has to go through a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter, but otherwise worlds fine)

I'm amazed that anyone bothers to make mono headsets. How much money could it possibly save per unit?
