Has anyone here experience of a disputed domain name and any idea how much it costs or the procedure. I registered a domain name in the UK for my website and after its success someone registered the same domain name with the .com suffix, 4 years later. He then redirects this domain to his own site which is a list of links as a blog. He is not copying my site in any and does not purport to be me he just redirects to his own site. The only reason I ask is that a few people have said they intended to go to my site to be "fooled" into going to the alternative site. I have not made any contact with the other site owner but just wondered what the likely procedure/costs are. I only do this for fun and have no intention in getting into an expensive legal wrangle. |

You are dealing with Bogey Media, LLC out of Michigan. This is their business and they own dozens of domain names. Usually the names they pick are based on Google queries, i.e., "free war game rules". Lucky you. The only purpose of the site is to generate ad revenue on folks who enter that query. Because there are two different extensions, there is no domain dispute. Unless you take them to court for trademark infringement. This could be quite expensive so you will probably just have to live with it. But usually these companies never show up in court. They probably would be willing to sell the name to you for several tens of thousands of dollars. You could attempt to 'grab' that domain name if/when it becomes available. There are services you can sign up with who do this. Regards, the Gorb |

When I tried I got redirected to this site. miniaturewargaming.com I don't really see anything to be confused about this being a different site. Using google the only other site I found was a blog site and it did not look to be monetized at all. So can you be more specific about what site it is that is causing you problems? |

@napthyme – He is freewargamerules.co.uk They are freewargamerules.com (redirected to miniaturewargaming.com) He is not happy because if confused internet users type in the wrong extension (.com) they then may be sent to the wrong site and think he is no longer on line. @freewargamesrules – I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, you are #1 on Google search. I just wondered what the procedure was. I certainly wouldn't spend any money on it as my site costs me enough money out of my own pocket
.and i only do this for fun. I will keep an eye on the date it expires and see if i can grab it for £8!! |

The domain expires on 24-feb-2012 so you have almost two years to wait. Regards, the Gorb |
