I have been following the first three parts of he series through ways that do not bear expanding on, but so far it fails to immerse me like Band of Brothers did.

Don't misunderstand me. It is certainly not a bad series. But BoB was much more of a lot of little people swept along by a huge war and all the more impressive because of it. The Pacific looks more novelesque because it follows just a few main characters.

Does anyone else share this sentiment?

I have seen Part 1 so far and I'll wait for the DVD release to see the rest but I see what you mean.

To be fair it would be impossible to do the story as written in the participants' books in anything like the way BoB was done. Plus that one was about a year of the war and a small unit of soldiers. The Pacific encompasses three years and basically the 1st Marine Division…

But I like it a lot!

Only seen the first two as I don't have Sky.

Very well done – lots of things we now take for granted in HBO war series, like proper kit and weapons for the right part of the war etc.

However, its already starting to hit the wall I thought would be there. BoB had lots of different elements due to it being in Europe this one has – walk through jungle, get whacked, dig in, get attacked by massed Japanese.

All there is left to come (on the military side) is the get stuck on the beach and the dig enemy out of bunkers parts.
