OK, not, "Predator," but "Predators." New movie scheduled for release this July 9th based on our favorite intergalactic "rite-of-passage" killers…

Love their "wardog" – who is going to do a mini???

Trailer available in a couple more days… March 18th.

"The story will be set on the Predator home world, where a group of soldiers will battle for their lives against the creatures. Recenty Rodriguez told MTV that his reboot will be a direct sequel to the original, possibly ignoring Predator 2, Alien vs. Predator, and Alien vs Predator: Requiem, saying "Maybe people will forget all the bad sequels and only think this one and the original exist".

HA HA HA HA HA!!

I loved Predator 2!!!! I thought it was as good as the original.

Whatisitgood4atwork13 Mar 2010 6:07 p.m. PST

Awww…. and here I was hoping for 'Predator and Batman v Terminator and Abbot and Costello. On Mars'.

As for forgetting the subsequent, sure, why not? I pretend Alien finished at Aliens, Terminator finished at 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean was a one-off movie. I'm happier that way.

Whatisitgood4atwork13 Mar 2010 6:08 p.m. PST

Oh yeah. There was no Godfather III either.

Wow, this one got made fast. RR only announced it last summer. Who the heck is Nimrod Antal???!!!

Ridley Scott announced his new Alien movie at around the same time, but the suits at 20th Century FOX would only give their blessings if the great one (i.e. Scott) directs it himself. Looks like it'll be awhile longer to wait for:

just saw this trailer today on the A-team, thought it looked good, just like the originals, slap a bunch of elite killers on a planet, and begin the hunt…I have high hopes for this one…

Covert Walrus13 Jun 2010 6:51 p.m. PST

McBane, be heartened by the fact that Rob Rodriguez said he watched all the AvP movies in order to know what NOT to do.
When I saw the trailer for this, I said to myself "I *was* expecting a written apology from RR for not getting finger extracted over the release of MACHETE . . . This will however do"

Barks108 Jul 2010 7:18 p.m. PST

Saw it yesterday- chock full of win. Far better than the AVP spinoffs, but not as good as Predator, Alien or Aliens. It has more than a few nods to the original. Good gaming potential. 4/5

It was Ok, not great, but enjoyable. I thought Lawrence Fishburn was miscast, and Arian Brody was better than I thought he would be. All the other characters were just that, characters, and stereotypical characters at that, no originality in thought at all . My biggest groan in film is when the predator jump from the rocks and landed in a three point stance (what I have deemed as the new whilem scream for movies) Remember the 1st scene from Underworld when Kate Beckensale jump from the tower into that cool landing. That was such an awesome scene in films. Unfortunately now it's in every action movie to the point where I actually groan when I see it.

also just got back from seeing it today, enjoyed it alot, great movie that didnt try to be anything else than what it was….

Sorry to be a buzz kill, but this was a major letdown for me. Hard as I try to buy it, but Adrian Brody just isn't a convincing b@d@$$ action hero. He speaks in a hoarse voice to sound quietly menacing, but it only comes out as contrived, and his big drum-magazine gun is just ridiculously unwieldy.

As bandit86 pointed out, every character with the exception of the only two 'likeable characters' is a stock stereotype caricature slated to die as Predator fodder, with the obligatory (spoiler ahead, but not really) Mexican and 'brother' going first. By populating this movie with unlikeable characters, including a white-tr@$h deathrow inmate who's gonna die in two days anyway, their deaths are all the more meaningless and even fun for the audience to take. RR (Robert Rodriguez, who produced 'Predators') gave us a 'Machete' preview of sorts, but Danny Trejo had twin MP5's instead of a machete, and the 'yakuza samurai' vs. Predator scene near the end of the movie could've been QT's (RR's best friend – that is, other than Rose McGowan – Quentin Tarantino) idea, as it brings to mind the 'The Bride' vs. Lucy Liu scene at the end of Kill Bill volume 1. Lawrence Fishburne's character is totally superfluous. How the fat (and man did he pack on some pounds) b@$t@rd 'survived ten seasons' must be nothing less than a miracle.

Nothing that happened in this movie I did not predict (and I'm no psychic), making this the most 'formulaic' movie I've seen in a while. I even knew early on that 'That '70's dude' is sinister behind his geeky harmless veneer, as he exudes Paul Reiser's corporate character in 'Aliens' out of every pore of his sorry @$$. 'Predators' is a B movie, and a pretty bad one at that. At least AvP 1 and 2 had some originality in them, if nothing much else.

I just got back from seeing it, and I agree with WW2Fanatik. Very poor.

I didn't go in expecting it to exceed or even match the original Predator movie, but as it turns out it fell way, way short. All the in-references to the first movie just made me remember how much better that was, and wish I was at home watching it on DVD again instead of stuck in the cinema watching Predators.

I also think Predator 2 had a lot to like about it, but this latest effort wasn't any better than the first AVP movie (I can't comment on Requiem, as I couldn't bear to sit through more than about 20 minutes of that). In fact I think AVP was better – I own it on DVD, but can't imagine ever buying a copy of Predators.

EDIT – WW2Fanatik, thanks also for mentioning the funny voice thing. It's just like Christian Bale in the Batman movies, they must think it sounds tough but it just makes them seem like ridiculous posers.

Just saw it.WWW2Fanatic says it all.
