You did have passion and believed in your cause.

I still remember you disrepect to vetrans on Rememberance Day and the longest suicide note in British political history. Thnak you Michael for giving us Margaret Thatcher, Neil (the Welsh Windbag) Kinnock and Tony Blair. Without you we would never of had "New Labour".

Well you can't spell Veterans and it's Britons not "Britains". Britain is a Geographical term.

Michael Foot was a principled man. He generally got on well with people even with the Royals, whom he wanted to put out of a job. He came to leadership of the Labour party when he was probably too old and frail to deal with the internal stresses of the Left/Right split of that Party.

An anti-Soviet Leftie, by today's standards he was too complex for a media world that likes simple labels to condemn people by. I disagreed with quite a bit he stood for, but the world could do with more like him

His alleged "disrespect" was to wear what was, for him, a smart warm coat on a November day. A duffel coat that the Queen Mother had complemented him for.

The disrespect was drummed up by the Murdoch and Rothermere press.

Never speak ill of the dead, eh?

A man of principle who stood by his beliefs. Not many of those left in politics.

RIP Mr Foot.

Agree with him or not, he was a dedicated man who gave his life to politics.

I quite liked the old boy. He was an old school politician.

I thought we'd agreed that the obituary board was to be a Richard-free environment? Didn't everyone get the memo?

personally, i dont follow british politics closely, and didnt know much about the gentleman, but every time somebody mentions Jack Straw (as they do in one of the linked articles), i have to giggle. knowing that a character in a Grateful Dead song ("Jack Straw from Wichita cut his buddy down/Dug himself a shallow grave and laid his buddy down") is the Justice Minister…

"I still remember you disrepect to vetrans…"

Two mistakes in seven words. Was he responsible for the appalling drop in basic educational standards as well?

Michael Foot's crime was to be an intellectual with a coherent political stance (you may not have agreed with it, but it hung together well).

A legacy of his non-election : a politics that seems to revolve around who has the nicest smile and the best hair cut.

Is the lead item either:

Deeply ironic attack on a man of letters?
Or eduction fail ..
