I have Vista on my hot machine. I have one issue that just won't go away but only one issue. I am unable to play one game because of this. NO biggie. What does Windows 7 get me that Vista doesn't? mjc |

On startup, Windows 7 won't say "Windows HUNGRY! Windows need more RESOURCES!" It is mainly more streamlined. It comes with a VM of XP for compatibility. A bunch of features left out of Vista are in 7. I'd wait a little while (Maybe January?) if you can bear to keep Vista for a bit. Windows 7 is the bleeding edge right now. |

The WinXP VM only works if your Chipset can support it, the VM lives at the hardware level Win7 will get snarled up like any version of Windows |

Windows 7 is a good step forward, it's probably the best OS Microsoft has ever released. We are already loading the server version on all our business server my computer sells (Windows 2008 R2 looks and runs exactly like Windows 7). Now, having been a hand puppet for Microsoft, I have to say I don't recommend upgrading your Vista to Windows 7. Upgrades never work right, and you run the risk of Windows 7 not having drivers for older hardware. I recommend getting Windows 7 only if you are getting new hardware. |

Windows 7 XP compatibility mode is only available in the Ultimate edition. I seriously doubt anyone needs it unless they're running a specific legacy application in a business environment that they can't live without. Home Premium is the way to go. Functionally it's not much different then Vista, though I quite like the new task bar and UAC is less intrusive. There are a lot more video codecs included so it plays lots of files that required third party apps in Vista (m2t files, etc.). It feels faster, mostly in the way loading programs has been streamlined--apps do start quicker. Nothing actually runs faster once it's going--which is to be expected because it's really Vista SP 3. I upgraded because I had tried the beta and liked it. I got in a 50 dollar upgrade deal, which made it cheap. If you've got access to one of the discounted upgrades it's worth it. I don't thing I'd spend a 100 dollars to upgrade Vista to Win 7. What is your issue in Vista? If you'll tell us perhaps we'll know whether an upgrade will fix it. |
