The BBC are reporting that Edward Woodward has died, age 79. Think it was in Callan that he was a wargammer. |

He helped make wargaming cool back in the 60's and 70's. RIP Mr Woodward. |

Very sad – one of my favourite actors. I absolutely loved The Equalizer and he was fantastic as Breaker Morant, a film we used in the Canadian military for military law study. And while I never saw it, I recall in the old Battle magazine (sister magazine to Military Modeling in the early 70s) that he hosted a series of half hour shows on wargames. And who can forget The Wicker Man? Here's an obit I found on a quick google: link -- Tim |

Rats. Another great one has passed. I always liked his work. I still think his performance in The Wicker Man was one of the best ever. Viya Con Dios Mr Woodward. We thank you sir. |

I'm old enough to remember the Callan TV series. It was my all time favourite secret agent show. Very sadly missed. |

A very fine actor. I saw the show Callan as well as a kid and was so excited to see wargame figues! Possibly the first use of wargaming in a TV show ever that was portrayed with intelligence, not in a patronising way as so often the case. |

Indeed a loss to the British Acting community, I remember him for many a fine role. The Wicker Man and Breaker Morant were two personal favourites of mine. I also enjoyed his turn as Police commander Powell in the underated Who Dares Wins. His range was fairly limited or at least he was never given the diversity of roles that pushed him as far as prehaps he could have gone, but always gave a good solid performance none the less. Another of the greats of the older generation has passed on. |
