My Yahoo email account just sent out spam to my address book. I've got McAfee and a scan came back negative. Does this mean everytine I open my Yahoo email account I'm going to send out more spam? How do I stop it? I thought McAfee was suppose to prevent this. |

A lot of the time your email address gets spoofed by a spammer so the person receiving thinks it is a good email (you are on his safe senders list). It is actually sent from the spammer's email server not from your yahoo account. You can verify by looking at the internet headers on the email. On Microsoft emails this is under View/Options. I checked my "sent" folder and the spam is there!!! That means I have something McAfee couldn't find. I presume that means it is still lurking somewhere in my machine ready to create trouble some time in the future. What can I do? The only consolation is the contact list on this account is pretty small. |

You are running yahoo web-mail, or something else? |

myname@yahoo.com That's yahoo web-mail? Only accessed via security enabled wireless XP Firefox 3.53 if that makes a difference. |

The only safe way to deal with this is nuke it from orbit. :-) Time for the process of elimination stuff. Try accessing it from another browser if you have it and see if you get the same thing. LLC aka Ron

email client? I just log on to Yahoo!Mail with Firefox. It's not sending out any more spam. But now I log on, read my mail and log off. I used to stay logged on for hours. I'll try some other antivirus programs. If it sends out spam again I'll probably have to nuke the harddrive. |
