I'd met this lady back when she first started playing in the SCA but due to my inactivity, I knew her mostly online and now I received news of her passing.

Known to me and hundreds of others as "Baroness Kolfinna Kottr" she was stricken with H1N1. While she was not a wargamer in the literal sense, she was as dedicated to learning about all things Norse and Viking as even the most hardcore dice pusher. She participated in a wide variety of activities including armor making and fighting in armor. She had the distinction of becoming the first female knight in the nearly 40 year history of Caid (the "kingdom encompassing So. Cal, Hawai'i and Las Vegas).

She also devoted herself to service within the group and was formally recognized for her selfless giving early this past September. Unfortunately, she developed pneumonia some time before or during the war where she received her acclamation and was hospitalized soon after. While undergoing treatment it was discovered that she had also picked up H1N1. It appeared that she was making a recovery, but her condition suddenly worsened and she will be taken off life support within a couple of hours.

Sorry to hear that. Flu is a killer, and not just this recent version.

So sorry, Wyatt.

Condolences, Wyatt.

One of my coworkers has emphysema, and she is terrified of catching the flu, any flu, not just H1N1, because of her already damaged lungs and diminished breathing capability. Her fear is palpable in the office, and understandable.

Condolences my friend…
We lose too many so suddenly.
But keep her spirit in your heart;
And she shall never truly be gone…
