A former speechwriter for Nixon, he died of pancreatic cancer at age 79. He put together the "kitchen debate" between Kruschev and Nixon.

Mister Safire was my grammer, and, speling, mentor. When I would buy the NYT Sunday paper, his Language column was the first thing I would go to.

Anyone who speaks out for proper grammer and spelling should be mourned. RIP

I'm with the OFM, his Language column was the first thing to which I would turn. :) (Safire probably wouldn't approve of the use of "thing" in that sentence, either, but what the heck.)

RIP, Mr. Safire.

I also ended my sentence with a preposition.
