I have a web site metroeastgaming.org for our gaming group. The company that hosts the domain and website give me several tools see who is looking at the site, time and date, stats etc. It gives me the IP address of the person looking at the website how many times and what pages. Tonight I discovered that if I cut and past the IP address into a IP address lookup I can see where the visitor is from, and what really surprised me is, at the bottom of the page is a Google Earth map showing the location where the request came from.

Have you tried Google Analytics – it does this kind of thing directly – you just need to add a line of javascript to the bottom of your pages.

The geographic location is cool – but is probably not 100% accurate. But it certainly gives you an idea of where visitors are coming from.
