Sad news. RIP Mr Swayze.

OldGrenadier Fezian14 Sep 2009 5:54 p.m. PST

An actor and dancer of some note. He fought the good fight against his cancer. He will be missed.

I just read his obituary. Hadn't realized that he had pancreatic cancer. He was only 57, way to young to pass away. One of the few Hollywood personalities that had a successful marriage, so it seems, with his wife since 1975.

WOLVERINES!!!!!

Azantihighlightning14 Sep 2009 6:44 p.m. PST

I heard he was a real nice man to work with. It has seemed he would beat it at one stage, but apparently not.

Dirty Dancing in the London Theatre will be an odd show to appear in tomorrow night.

He was in some real guilty pleasure movies (Red Dawn, Road House)

RIP Patrick.

Don't forget "Uncommon Valor" too.

I really enjoyed his films, at least most of them.

Damn. Just when we thought the "rags" were spinning the news to sell more copy, they were actually closer to the truth than we knew. Such a shame, as Mr. Swayze seemed like a really good guy, something the world at large sees less and less of each passing generation.

Godspeed, Patrick, and thank you very much.

And don't forget him in "North and South"….

Tom Bryant14 Sep 2009 10:54 p.m. PST

This is definitely an "Aw Crap!" moment. I always liked Patrick Swayze as an actor. He truly lived the life of a hero to the end. Too bad he couldn't win this fight. Godspeed and Fair Winds Patrick, we thankk you sir. Viya Con Dios.

Rest in Peace. Too young to leave us.

So sorry to hear this, he seems to have been a genuinely nice guy.

He managed a few good years after the diagnosis, though. He will be missed.

Sad to hear this. I hadn't seen the new TV series he was working on but heard good things about it. He was one of only 2 TV/film celebs I'd brushed by in life. Was waiting behind him at a rental car desk in Albuquerque airport on my honeymoon. I understand he had a ranch in AZ. Funny thing was my wife was a big fan of his. She was at baggage pick-up waiting to get our bags… and never got to see him. =[

honestly, and this isnt intended to be pejorative, but when i heard a reporter talking about his diagnosis, and they added the comment, "by the way, he still smokes", i thought to myself, "dead man walking". im not sure how much sympathy im supposed to have for someone who wont stop engaging in the behavior thats killing them. sincerest condolences to his family, though.

Ditto Tango 2 115 Sep 2009 4:57 p.m. PST

Celtic, once you've got pancreatic cancer, I don't believe stopping isn't going to make it go away (I could be wrong, though). I don't smoke but know many who do and have tried to quit, and if you've ever known anyone who has tried to quit and failed, it might be easier to understand. Coupled with the what I understand as a pretty grim prognosis for pancreatic cancer, why take away a pleasure when your demise is all but certain? I know folks have beaten PC, but it can also be pretty virulent. I had great admiration for the man that he was trying to be as normal as possible while fighting the condition.

I liked Patrick Swayze – my favourite movie of his was, of course, Red Dawn, but I also thought he was really good in Ghost.

57 is awfully young, what a pity.

He always reminded me of the one guy in every small town high school across America that was the best looking guy and best athelete. And everybody, both boy and girls, still liked him.
And what the hell does smoking have to do with pancreatic cancer?

cfuzwuz16 Sep 2009 4:42 a.m. PST

I see that cigarette smoking is supposedly resposible for 20 to 30% of pancreatic cancer. As smoking is the current bogey man in health issues that number is probably around 5 to 10%.

goragrad16 Sep 2009 5:49 p.m. PST

RIP Mr. Swayze. I didn't see all of his work, but saw enough to recognize his talent. Saw one episode of his latest show (don't have cable) and thought it compared well with other shows out there.

Having lost my father and an uncle within the span of 4 months to pancreatic cancer a decade ago, I was particularly impressed with the way he handled it. There may have been significant advances in treatment in that decade, but from what I have read it is still a debilitating and painful disease.

Hexxenhammer17 Sep 2009 8:33 a.m. PST

Let's not forget him and Chris Farley as two dancers at a Chippendales tryout.
