Well, if you are going to make a change it has to be contemporary and appreciated by the masses.

In Washington State you will never hear our state song. It has been supplanted by our unofficial state song:

Over the years, the Battle Hymn of the Republic has been suggested, in Congress, as a substitute for the SSB but Congress has no real inclination to hack off a chunk of constituents for no real gain.

Some years ago there was a site that petitioned to change the key in which the SSB is sung because it's so hard to sing even pro singers can slip once in a while.
