Spent the day at this event in Detling, Kent [near Maidstone]. military-odyssey.com While I'm not a reenactor it's interesting to see the various groups. We watched a WW1 encounter, an English Civil War skirmish and a Wars of the Roses battle as well as the final WW2 encounter complete with spotter planes and a tank [and lots of bangs]. My son got to fire lots of things ranging from paintball to a cannon and generally had a good time. The reenactors appear to cover most periods from Ancient Greeks through to WW2 [as always lots of SS wannabees but also some interesting groups..I liked the Kreigsmarine/U Boat group with a U Boat conning tower rising oout of the grass ] Lots of interesting stalls selling some quite bizarre items but alos some wargames stuff..lots of Ospreys and plastic figures] The show is also on tomorrow and Bank Holiday Monday and is well worth a trip. |

We have something similar out here in October, although there's no arena. marchingthruhistory.com Romans through Viet Nam generally. Three years ago, they had USMC reenactors "storming the beach" while Corsairs and some Navy aircraft from the Planes of Fame made "attack runs." Wyatt |
