God, I hate Vista. My new HP laptop has this mess as its OS. Occasionally something really irritating and stupid happens when I'm in Forefox. The Firefox window greys out and I can't use it and the stupid circle on the mouse starts spining. I can alt-tab out and go to other programs, including those who are using my wireless connection (such as my remote connection to work), so it's got nothing to do with my internet connection. The grey out lasts for about 20 seconds to more than a minute before it stops. I've used Firefox for a couple of years and this has never happened in XP. Anyone know what the blazes is going on? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions (The computer store I got the system from said I have the opportunity for a "free" upgrade to the beta Windows 7 – don't know if that was a store special or if anyone can do it – I may do this, our PC Support at work love Win 7) -- Tim |

Sorry, can't help. MS and HP strike again. Have you tried HP's world famous customer service line? If you have a few hours/days to kill, it might be worth a shot, assuming you can get past the fake southern/mid-western accents of the support staff from India, and actually understand what they are saying, or can get them to understand you. I never could, but best of luck to you. |

I called HPs CS line when I found out my HP All-In-One wasn't supported by Vista (at least some fo the features I used on it). They told me I had to buy a new printer
.. Also, with Vista, if I cut and past anything out of Windows Mail, it crashes Mail(much like your Firefox issue). Also, when I restart my computer, I have to "double start" it. EVERY TIME I start it, it turns on that damn annoying User Account Control. I then have to go in and turn it off, and restart my computer. It just won't stay off

Not terribly helpful to the question at hand, but if you can claim that you are a "business" in any way, you IMMEDIATELY get better service by choosing that option from the prompts when you call HP. You are connected with the level 2 guys within the States. Wyatt |

I can't help but I sympathise – I had a HP laptop with Vista (for about 7 months) and it caused me grief from day one, and HP were next to useless. So I now own a MacBook and we are back to happy days. Best of luck, Kev. |

Is there a reason you have to use Vista? -Kle. |

I've had the issue you describe, but with Firefox in Ubuntu. My Vista machine runs Firefox NP. You might try Chrome or more RAM if you only have 1GB. |

Seems a lot of people are having similar issues. Possible remedies: * Uninstall any Firefox-plugins that you may have installed. One of them may be the cause of your problems. * There are several posts identifying free version of Zone Alarm Firewall as the culprit. If you use it, uninstall it and see if it helps. Newest version of Zone Alarm Firewall seems to be less troublesome, so an upgrade could be enough. * Flash has been mentioned couple of times – upgrade to latest version. * Last but not least, and IMHO rather impropable – there are some indications that an older version of Java Runtime Enviroment may cause issues. Search Java Runtime Distributable on google, download it and upgrade. I will try to find out more tomorrow, our company deals with a lot of network/software support helpdesk issues, so our techies may know more about this issue. If you can, then post a message if you find a solution, this is an issue that I would like to know more about. |
