OK, so I am with my daughter in the hospital for the whole week and I want to watch my White Sox play ball. However, the hospital TVs don't have Comcast Sports Network, so I figured that I'd try watching the games on MLB.com.

Once I've signed up and paid my $35 USD for the year, I find out that the Sox are blacked out in Chicago. Bleeped text, Bleeped text, Bleeped text.!!!!!

Reading some fine print, I discover that MLB.com looks at your ISP to determine which is your home market, so providing an out of town address or zip code doesnt' fool the censors. The whole purpose of getting a subscription is to watch the White Sox when I'm traveling. So even if I were in Denver or San Fransisco or New York, I wouldn't be able to watch any Sox games because of the Comcast.net ISP that I am on . And my laptop uses ATT instead of Comcast.

There must be a way around this. Any ideas? Should I use my yahoo mailbox as my address or something else.

You may be able to get round this by using a proxy server.

I suspect they look at your IP address -- which is assigned by your ISP to work out where you are.

Various content on the bbc.co.uk site is only available for UK based readers.

Der Alte Fritz –

Oh, you don't need Stoney and Hawk. You need Farmeo and DJ!

They paint a better picture than "Y-y-y-yes!"

And they are free!

The White Sox are evil; MLB.com is doing you a favor.

The whole thing is ridiculous. If you live outside the area of your favorite team you're fine; if not you're punished.

Dang, Fritz, that sucks. Sorry about that. :(

Reminds me of how it sucked watching sports in Arkansas, where Sunday NFL games started at noon, but you missed the first hour because mandated network religious programming was on till 1 pm Central time on Sundays.

Yes, that was back in the early 90's when the "Simpsons" was banned in NW Arkansas. :(

If you log on outside of chicago, ie using a hotel network, then it will recognise that you are not in the area, then let you see the games. I live i the UK so don't have any blackout problems with mlb.tv but whenI went to Boston a few years back, the BoSox Yankees game was blacked out.

Also, it shouldn't black out away games.
