A great man and a true hero, as are the men who lost their lives fighting in more recent conflicts. Thank you very much for what you did for our country. |

On his visit to the Somme in 2006 he was asked how he wanted to be remembered. "I don't" he said, "I want to be forgotten. Remember the others." A veteran of the battles of Jutland and the Somme, as well as being the last surviving founding member of the Royal Air Force. That's going to be extremely hard to forget, but he and others like him will definitely be remembered and deeply appreciated. Godspeed, Mr. Allingham, and thank you very, very much for your service to the cause of freedom. I salute you, sir. |
