My grandmother lost two cousins on the Hood – she often talked about them to me when I was a nipper…some 30+ years later the way they had died still haunted her.

I was ready to meet my God.

He's met Him in peace, and is reunited with his shipmates. The HMS Hood now has her full crew again, and can resume her eternal patrol.

Godspeed, Mr. Briggs, and thank you very, very much for your unselfish service to the cause of freedom in World War II. I salute you, sir.
