I find that a worrying post coming straight after "Weavers to invade the UK" – what exactly are you planning on *doing* over here
? |

Certainly not collect guys with cool accents. Nope, that's not my plan at all. ;) Actually, it's a thing I'd wondered about last week, and Michael & I couldn't satisfactorily resolve the question, so I thought I'd ask here. There's words for darned near everything else; surely there's a word for this! |

You can Google "male harem", but don't blame me for what you find. |
Neotacha | 29 Jun 2009 7:52 a.m. PST |
I already did, John, with appropriate filters. So far, 'stable' seems to be the winning entry. |

Probably a "scarum", Neo. If not, it should be labeled as such for obvious reasons. |

Since it comes from a word that simply means "forbidden place" I see no more reason why there should be a separate word to differentiate m'lady's harem from m'lord's than there should be a separate word for m'lady's bathroom. But what does one do about guards? |
Farstar | 29 Jun 2009 12:09 p.m. PST |
Depends on whether you want to keep other ladies out, or the men *in*. |
Gungnir | 29 Jun 2009 1:41 p.m. PST |
I hate to interrupt the musings with a serious answer, but the turkish word selamlik describes the portion of a Turkish palace or house reserved for men, so not quite a male harem, posssibly the closest word for one. |
