the '5' key on Mrs H laptop has stopped working- any ideas/fixes?

Only time something like this happend I had to have a tech re-seat my CPU. Have you contacted the manufacturer?

Pry the 5 key off carefully, see if there is anything underneath it. Had one at work this week with a faulty key – that had a staple caught underneath it. Key taken off,staple removed, key replaced – all works fine. Just be carful, but most keys will pop off and be able to be put back on securely again.

Before you pry off the key try a can of compressed air first. It might well dislodge whatever is causing the trouble and save you the trouble of prying off the key or risk damaging the keyboard.

I that doesn't work you can replace the keyboard. Search ebay for a keyboard with the model name. They're usually not too expensive and it's not a terribly hard fix.

It was a simple prise off job. If it had been a normal keyboard I wouldn't have asked, but I have never done a laptop before, so wanted to see if someone else suggested it, as I didn't know if it was the same. Thanks to you all.
