My McAfee is coming up for renewal. The price is too high, and they've moved to 3xPC subscriptions vs. single PC subscription, making changing to something different mor expensive. So I'm looking for a new anti-virus and internet security package. NOTE: Norton is definitely out.

AVG?

I'm fond of Avast!.

In my opinion AVG and Avast! compete for being the best, and currently Avast! is on top. (The latest version of AVG has a tendency to take up a lot of memory.)

(A disclaimer is that I use the ones that are free for personal use. I have little experience of the pay versions.
And, frankly, if you're not a business the free versions will be enough.)

2nd what Henrix says. AVG has become a hog.

I've got the full version of AVG on my system… and, while it's working fine, keeping me safe(ish)… it does seem to want to swell up and take over the system.

Avast! – I'm in IT and the home free version of Avast! is better then McAffee and Norton could be.

I had read the same about AVG. Shame. Looks like Avast is the one. Thanks!

Professionaly I like Trend and Kaspersky, I was fond of AVG not so much now, I still like F-Prot and I'm playing with a new companies product Malwarebytes that has promise.

I've tried both AVG and Avast and can recommend either.

Take a look at NOD32. Newegg sometimes has the disc on sale at a nice discount too. It has very little footprint, and consistently is one of the top ranked AV performers.

Malwarebytes is good (and free) for taking care of trojans and stuff that AV doen't catch.

Ive been happy with Kaspurskys.
it comes with 5 install licences.
it is pricey so you REALLY need to catch it on sale.
it updates every 2 hours.

Kaspersky.

You can also get 1 & 3 user licenses.
Download and try for free.

'Best'

means different things to different people. Anti-virus software can cause as many problems as it fixes in some instances.

I use: F-prot

f-prot.com

No issues in 4 years with viruses, worms or conflicts with my system. $50.00 USD or less.

You still need anti-adware to go with it. Stopzilla can be had for ???$40.00 which is a lifetime subscription. Stopzilla is simply awesome.

Surfing the net with a mac. Not trying to be snarky here, I have never had a problem in 2 years of owning a mac.

Space Monkey12 Jun 2009 11:00 p.m. PST

Yeah, I use my roommate's Mac when I wanna look at internet porn.
