I am thinking of making the step into HD DVDs. I was looking at Best Buy and it seemed the average Blu-Ray was around $250.00 USD or so. A PS3 runs $399.00, and I can get my game fix with it from time to time. I have a boat load of DVDs and my wife and I really like to camp out on the couch and have movie night. Now the question is, would I be better served to save the $150.00 USD and buy the Blu-Ray player or go all out and get the PS3? I am doing ok financially and 400 bucks wouldn't break the bank. I am looking opinions on which way to go. Thanks, Brent |

The PS3 is a very good Blu-Ray player. It also has an advantage over many current players on the market in that you can download any improvements in the operating system as they are developed. You can control dvd playing from the game controller provided but I would recommend buying a proper Sony remote control for the PS3. So do you want to pay $150 USD for an excellent games machine? |

I dont see a reason not to buy the PS3. As Paul said, your basically buying a Blu-ray and a game system for $150 USD extra. I used my PS2 for 5 years as both my DVD player and game console. I still use it now for my games. I haven't had a problem with video or game degradation in that time. |

Over the last couple of weeks I also struggled with this. I chose a LG390 Blueray player. Most games for the PS3 don't interest me, I am not a video gamer and most games available are far less than appropriate for my almost 7 year old daughter though my 17 year old son may have enjoyed them. The LG player I got (and a few others) have a wireless capability built in. It easily found and connected to my Linksys wireless router and we've updated the software, watched You Tube videos and signed up for and watched Netflix via this connection with no problems at all. If you want the game system, go with the PS3. That was not somethign I wanted. Instead I got a wirelss capability, an included very good remote, and a netflix ready player. I am VERY happy with my choice. PS: Check Amazon for HDMI cables, I got a 10 ft cable delivered for 12 bucks and it is fine. Best Buy had a similar cable for over 40 bucks. Jake |

I got the PS3 on day one, and have loved it ever since. Please do not forget that the PS3 also is an "upscaler" DVD player too. But, last year, they did have a problem with their "upscaler", but quickly corrected it in a downloadable patch. Really got on the ball for fixes like that. And they are always improving the system too. Get a PS3. |
