Hi, Need some specialist advice. Which program could I use to make certain changes to a .pdf file? Essentally it's a large non- commercial (gaming) map with lots of text -that need altering- and some illustrations (that in some cases I will have to remove, alter or add new ones). I'll probably have to update (after the intial work) this map once or twice a year, so what I'm looking for is a relatively cheap application. Found a few .pdf converter programs advertised, but since I'v never used any of them, I felt it would be prudent to ask the opinion of people with a lot more expertise than I. Thanks for any help! |

Acrobat is the only one I know of that alters PDFs. There may be a free editor out there but I don't know of one. |

For internal image alteration as well as text, you may need to step up to Illustrator, assuming Adobe still keeps PDF authoring in that package. Ideally, however, you have the original file the PDF was created from, and just create a new PDF when alterations are required. |

Acrobat Pro is usually the best way to go, but what you're really looking for is a "Print Driver" that allows you to "print to a file." That way, you're not changing your actual map file, you're just creating a new one each time you want to update it. Adobe offers a 90-day free trial of their software that'll allow you to do this. Also, search for "Acrobat Print Driver" and you'll find a couple of freeware versions. Wyatt |

What you might try is Ghost PDF orGhostScript, Ghostview and GSview. They are freeware that allow you to convert Postscript files to PDF files and convert PDF files back to postscript. Just goggle for GhostPDF or GhostScript and you will find their web page. It looks complicated, but I figured out how to use it, and if I could anybody can. |

Haven't tried any pdf modification, but Foxit is a decent reader with editing add-ons – some with a small one time fee. |

and convert PDF files back to postscript But the only thing you can do with a Postscript file is send it to a Postscript printer for output. Unless you know Postscript well enough to modify the PS file. |
