Went to quickly use PC on Tuesday evening to find it off. Odd. I was last to use it. Started it up and wandered off whilst it got going having seen the BIOS stuff come up etc… Came back to find it off again. Hmmm… Check back of PC for loose cables etc… while I'm down there I notice the back of PC is very hot by the power unit. So I decide to leave it to cool down for a while. Tried again 3hrs later – BANG! followed by that aroma of burning electrics !!! A quick trip to the PC shop the next day showed it to be the power unit and fortunately nothing else was fried apart from the fuse in the power cable. My fears for the hard-drive did not come to pass fortunately, especially as my last backup of photos and docs was 12 months ago!! Steve P |

Had the power supply going on my old computer, quitre a scare, I too feared I'ld lost lots. Bought a USB hard drive, and do backups a lot now. |

Having two hardrives is good. Having an off-site backup is the best; either on the Net somewhere or another computer that is linked and does automatic backups daily; my brother set me up with that system, finally, after all these years, bless his soul…. |
