Got a very official looking notice that I have a claim in a class action lawsuit against Symantec. All I have to do is fill out the form and select whether I want a a $15.00 USD voucher good for online Symantec products or a check for $2.50. I don't recall being part of a class action suit, which apparently involves Symantec unilaterally canceling update subscriptions without refunding any remaining money.

Has anyone else gotten this, or might recall being part of the lawsuit? Is this for real. It lists about a half dozen attorneys from around the country that are part of the legal team, and gives everything but a phone number for them, which makes me suspicious right there.

Got it this morning. Funny thing is, I have indeed had the problem they're alleging. Still, I'm not likely to do anything with it, especially since the sender's email address looks phishy.

I went ahead and googled the case number. It appears to be legit. I never subscribed though, and I don't remember becoming a party to the suit. I did register a Symantec product, but that was under a different email address.

The lawsuit may be legit, the question is, when you fill in "the form" which website are you on and who does the information go to? Look carefully at any links or headers. I like to get my email in plain text format, because it's easy to obscure that in an html coded email.

Jana, that's my problem too. The lawsuit may be real, but that don't mean the email is. Like I said, I don't recall becoming a party to it. And I registered the only product I ever got from Symantec from a different email address. So I'm gonna spam folder it. No reply to them.
