My Direct TV DVR just died. I can get another if I want but . . . this thing doesn't work unless you have a good connection. The trouble is if you record stuff and want to watch it during a storm you can't because your dish is out.

With TIVO this is not a problem.

I want to get a TIVO that I can use with a satellite dish that will handle the new high definition broadcasting. Seems like there's a lot of options but nothing very good for Satelite + HD.

I live in the middle of nowhere and satellite dish TV is my only option – so save the discussion about cable etc.

Can anyone help me out here?

I dont think tivo will stop a satelite outage from a weather front passing by.

No, but TIVO will let you watch what you have already recorded even if you have no signal from the dish.

A Direct TV DVR will not allow you to see the stuff you have already recorded unless you have a signal.

That's not true MJC. If it's recorded it's on the hard disc. I have DTV and a DVR. I have not experienced the issues you have. My sattelite has fewer issues than I ever had with cable. Maybe it's your DVR?

Thanks,

John

Although I have not tried it myself, I've heard great feednack from a couple of differnet people that have a media PC.
