Not Hollywood's most famous actor, but Ben Chapman, who was the Creature from the Black Lagoon:

Fun movie, nice man – rest in peace.

Dang! Swim well Mr. Chapman you gave me much joy and thrills when I was a child and my sons have discovered the wonders of the Creature from the Black Lagoon which I think still holds up against the CGI of today. It is a classic monster tale and I always felt sympathy for the Creature.

I remember setting my alarm when I was a kid (and the little b&w portable TV in my bedroom only got 13 channels) to get up at like 2:30 am to watch that movie. It was always my favorite monster movie from my youth.

R.I.P., and thanks for the memories.

RIP We met him once, at "Creature Fest" at Silver Springs.

I hope Julie Adams is doing well. (damn she looked good)

Godspeed, Mr. Chapman, thank you very much, and "Semper Fi". I salute you, sir.

Rest in peace, Ben. I e-mailed him several years ago & got a nice reply back from him. He was a really super guy.

Rest easy.

I was quite fond of Julia after seeing the movie too. She indeed looked awesome.

Yeah. The creature grabbing her underwater would have been the least of her worries if I was on that expedition.

Just a quick reminder so folks won't get confused.

The SWIMMING "Creature" (at least in the original film) was RICOU BROWNING who went on to be an ace underwater photographer for TV and movies. To my knowledge, he is still with us.

Ms. Adams (who was lovely!) is still with us, too, but she never did her own underwater work. That was performed in at least the first two films (all three, actually, I think) by athlete Ginger Stanley.

If you can find it, I recommend the great "Universal Limited Edition CFTBL" DVD anthology.

GREAT commentary.

Also, check out "Creature Fest" at Silver Springs. Very cool.

One of the true classics in monster movies and one of my favorites -- the Creature was truly creepy.

Rest easy Ben.
