Although he'll go for a Scottish accent, I can't help but feel that everyone will comment on his "Southern" accent. :p |

Ecclestone doing a Scots accent? That should be interesting. |

bah
he was Russian in the UK before Actionforce got mutated into GI Joe
. went downhill once the GI Joe change started – the only highlight was when they brought back the Black Major and a group of Red Shadows that had escaped Baron Ironblood's purge
. Red Jackal survived and became Destro, can't remember who Red Laser became, but the Red Laser figure was repainted as Ironbloods new alter ego Cobra Commander
tragic that was
. man I loved that comic |

. How is that? I know Stephen Sommers has said for years he has wanted to do a G.I. Joe movie, and he is both producing and directing this like he did the Mummy movies. I just hope Eccleston does a good job. I am looking forward to Dennis Quaid as General Hawk and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (the big baddie red warrior in Mummy Returns} as Heavy Duty. Would have preferred Michael Clarke Duncan as Heavy Duty, but oh well. Hope Marlon Wayans signs as wise-cracking RipCord. He could be perfect depending on the writing. It will be interesting seeing Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee going at each other as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow respectively. I am not sure about Channing Tatum as Duke and Rachel Nichols as Scarlett. Some bigger names could have been good in these roles. Hope they land Mummy-alumnus Arnold Vosloo as Zartan. |

Arnold Vosloo is a lovely bloke, long may his rein of playing tall fearsome warrior types continue. |

But will they all dress like the characters in the toons. Like the surfer guy who still wore surfer clothes in the Antarctic Etc
I hated that in the show. Plus no one got killed what kinda war was that? |

Rabid Fox: In the UK there was a toy range and comic called Action Force which had a UN army (Action Force – comprised of Space Force, Q-Force [navy], SAS Force and Z-Force [infantry]) fighting a terrorist organisation called the Red Shadows which was led by Baron Ironblood
the Baron had several henchmen (the Black Major, Red Laser, Red Vulture, Red Jackal). In the early 80's Action Force underwent a radical change to become GI Joe in all but name – The Baron staged a mass extermination of the Red Shadows and set himself up as Cobra Commander
Red Jackal (a Russian vehicle specialist) survived the Barons betrayal and tracked him down to his new lair to kill him but the Baron decided to take him on again and give him a new name – Destro
All of the old Action Force characters disappeared overnight to be replaced with the GI Joe characters (which were rather cliched) – they even got rid of the different branches of service

One problem anevilgiraffe, G.I. Joe in one form or another, including the Adventure Team I was a member of, has been around since the early 1960s at least. Yes, they may have been influenced by stuff from other parts of the world, but it pre-dates your claim. |
| anevilgiraffe | 13 Feb 2008 10:18 a.m. PST |
it wasn't a claim – oh I know they used some GI Joe moulds and repainted them
but it started off as a British toy line, that then started using US designs (in different ways) and then changed everything to match the US product in a way that didn't make sense
. we ended up with your characters, but with completely different back stories. I'm not disputing GI Joe has been around for ages, but they killed a good part of my childhood to import it into the UK
. grrrrr |

Given that the US comic was Duke, Snake Eyes, and the rest of the Joes from the get go, we never had the Action Force baggage. Instead, the Joes teamed up with the Autobots and Spiderman and kicked the C.O.B.R.A./Decepticon alliance time and again! You can just ignore the retcon and let Baron Blood and Cobra Commander be two completely different people. |

Apparently there was a deal between the Action Force makers(UK) and hasbro who produced GI Joe to swap moulds. Eventually the couldn't be bothered to repackage everything. It's a shame, I preferd the U.K. comic to the US one. I think the web site with all the info on is called "Blood for the Baron" |
