This is probavbly old news to some, but I only became aware that charley's War, one of the best WW1 comic strips around IMHO, is available in a series of book reprints. Four volumes to date. My order to Amazon has gone in today.

Yes, well worth getting. Favourite comic strip from my youth.

I'm still waiting for my Volume Four. I'm a bit miffed that Amazon aren't sending them out yet (I've had it on pre-order for months), as I've seen people on another forum claiming they have already got theirs. The latest one is "Blue's Story", about a British deserter from the French Foreign Legion telling Charley about his experiences at Verdun.

This comic strip is what got me and my brother interested in the Great War. I would never have gone to Verdun if this story hadn't been such a big part of my childhood reading.

Interesting…can you guys tell us a bit more about the background and style of this comic???

Outstanding artwork. It was this strip (and the earlier "Johnny Red") by Joe Colquhoun (now sadly not with us) that inspired me to start drawing and got me interested in military history. In fact, there's a good chance I wouldn't be in this hobby at all without the influence of these strips in "Battle" comic.

Excellent books, and loads of childhood memories that go with them.

Thanks for people pointing out this series. I got the first one and am hooked. If the rest don't come for Christmas, I'll be getting the rest for myself.

For those who were aware of this first, have there been any reprints of Johnny Red? From the descriptions given in Charley's War, I'd love to read those too.

No reprints of Johnny Red unfortunately, but you can see it, in all it's glory, here:

Thanks, Nautiloid! I'll have to look at that.
