This morning I was idly watching a plasma cutter punch out sheet metal screen doors and got to wondering …

Are the cutters reliable enough to cut out the patterns for 28mm or 1/56th scale metal vehicles, especially the inerwar armored cars and such? Just use a pattern like the ones for the paper vehicles and get something sturdier. They would be a lot lighter than lead/pewter but sturdier than cardstock.

There are laser cutters accurate enough that can cut metal sheet upwards of 1/16" I think.

Considering the cost of the machine however, you'd never make your money back if that's all you did with it.

And you'd probably have to learn AutoCad or some similar multi-thousand dollar/pound software package just to read the patterns.

I wasn't thinking of doing it myself, more of a just send the pattern to the sheet metal outfit and have it cut out. I already have and use Autocad so that's not much of a hurdle.

Laser or Water Jet is the way to go. It's expensive, though.

Hey CoryFromMissoula!

Sorry to break-in here! How are things? Haven't communicated forever!

Come on out for Historicon next year!
