Thinking of putting together a subaltern's kit to do a Canadian or British impression for the Great War. Does anyone else do such an impression and have any helpful hints? Thanks, w. |

Thanks Jon
I was hoping to get opinions on the Indian wholesaler, replicaters.com. They have great prices but I wonder about the quality. Cheers w. |

I'm also interested in replicators. I tried to join the PPCLI reenactment group but they weren't very communicative, their website is at: ppcli.canadianwebs.com They belong to this umbrella organization: great-war-assoc.org |

Is it usual to start out as an officer in Great War reenacting? |

Well, life expectancy for a subaltern on the Western Front was so short nobody should be upset ;-) For every other time period I do I have enlisted or junior NCO kit. For Great War I don't intend to join a unit as they are all very far away from me. The kit will be used for public displays and such like. Plus I've always had an affinity for the officer's kit with shirt, tie and Sam Browne belt. I'll just have to find a Webley .455 somewhere ;-) Cheers w. |

The Great War Assoc. is the best place to start. Do you live in the US? How about near weastern PA? They own a parcel of land which they fight their battles. I have spent the weekend fighting in those trenches and they are _COOL__!!!! It's a rush. |

>Do you live in the US? Nope. >How about near weastern PA? Not even remotely close. But thanks anyway – I would love to get out to a battle there someday. w. |

Hard to beat Rick Keller at Great War Militaria for originals or quality repro stuff. He isn't cheap though. |

Perhaps you're located on the West Coast? :-) I've been doing WWI for about six years and I have both German and American impressions. Unfortunately, things have slowed down a bit since we lost our battle site so we've mostly been doing timeline events and the like. One good event we've been developing is held in Bakersfield in April. The organizers have basically given us a football field-sized area to work with and they backhoe out a trench system for us. Here's a couple of pictures from that event: picture picture These were taken at our former battle site: picture picture As for uniform sources, Schipperfabrick is pretty decent. Great War has some good stuff but they're WAY overpriced and not very open to developing their product line(I understand that they make their $$ selling overpriced militaria). As for Replicators, STAY AWAY from them- quality is variable and their customer service is non-existant. Also a lot of their fabrics are not in the correct colors nor is the construction correct (at least for American uniforms). I'm hoping to make it back east to Neuville one day. Hope this helps. |
