A bit of short notice, but my wife brought home a flier for this event – its a reenactment of the skirmish between Patriots under Alston and Loyalists under Fanning. Its this weekend (Aug 4-5), there will be reenactors doing drills and firing musket and cannon, encampments, demos of various period related things, and a battle at 4pm (2pm on Sunday). Several authors will be there signing books (Suzanne Adair, Sheila Ingle, and Chris Swager). The first two wrote novels set during the period, the last wrote an overview of the Southern Campaign. I haven't read any of the books so I have no idea how good they are. The grounds are open 9a-5p on Saturday, and Noon to 4p on Sunday. For more info – 910-947-2051 or email: horseshoe (at) ncmail (dot) net. And – Its free. Free is good. :-) The House in the Horseshoe is located 16 miles West of Sanford, NC off NC Hwy 42, and 10 miles North of Carthage on the Carbonton-Carthage Road. |
