We have been with the same host since may 2005 and until recently all problems have been dealt with efficiently.

however the last week or so they have just ignored all of my support tickets about our server going down and the only time i get any answers from them at all is when i go through to sales and tell them to send me instructions on how to cancel my account.

I am gettign too old (and am certainly too pregnant) for all of this hassle and want to know if anyone else has a hosting company they would recommend to us to move our website to.

thanks lots

Sally :)

Who are you currently with?

My sites are both run by 1and1 now. Can be a bit slow to respond to somethings but not had any downtime.

1and1, they can be a bit slow to respond but generally they do sort out the issue.

we are currently with

phpwebhosting.com

These guys are tops: knownhost.com
24/7 support (with a phone number if you have to get ahold of them). They have a number of good and relatively cheap plans, or you can also have your own server hosted there, or get a virtual server. Great guys and great support. I've been with them for about a year and a half and have had no problems that weren't quickly addressed.

I've been with bluehost.com for 5+ years for my two web sites. Never had a problem that wasn't resolved within 24 hours. Very efficient, inexpensive, reliable.

i 2nd Bluehost, 4 yrs and no problems….

I've been using Below 10 Hosting below10host.com for close to a decade now with nary a problem.

I am currently running two sites on Bluehost and while I am quite happy with one I am not so happy with the other.

I would really suggest looking elsewhere for hosting. The server I am on has occasional hardware issues and they have refused to move me from it.

I am currently looking for a new host for the site and it is really a sad comment on their business practices that the only way I can get moved to a better server is to change hosts.

I use HostGator in Florida and have found them very quick and responsive. You can usually get an online live session with a support person immediately and get any problems resolved in 10 minutes.
Not that I've had more than a couple of problems in the last 2 years

i find it annoying that they ignore help desk entries and i only get a response when i threaten to cancel my hosting…then i got a response from customer services asking me why i was cancelling and if there were any unresolved issues outstanding! I copied and pasted the entire help desk entries on monday morning and i havent even had an acknowledgement they have received it or if the problems have been dealt with.

it has cost a lot of money so far as all of the advertising over the last few weeks has been geared to releases last week and we have customers who cant even access the site!

Not the best of situations to be in when the baby is due soon!

Could get in touch with Paul at Amazon. It's his line of business and he runs both Amazon and Garrison sites.

I thoroughly recommend Andy Cummings who hosts for us and TSS and others in the industry, if you want his email contact let me know and I will send it to you. He is always available and the one and only time I have ever had a problem he fixed it within seconds, he checks all his sites regularly as well to ensure they are all running properly. Jo:)

The minimum hosting requirements are PHP & MySQL. Ideally – to avoid the trouble with database failures – having a host that offers failovers and real-time backup would be perfect!

I can recommend Dreamhost. Very good customer support.

So far they have always solved my problem to my satisfaction.

I ran the Mongrel site with 1&1 and they were very good, although a little slow to respond to queries.

I had the same trouble with my old web hosting service and they ended up going up of business… my advice is switch services if you can't talk to anyone.

I switched to godaddy.com. Their customer service is great! You can talk to a live person 24/7. Plus they are very reasonable. Lots of add ons too.

Supreme Dalek22 Sep 2007 5:45 a.m. PST

Andy Cummings actually works abroad with his job some of the time, so is not always available. He also uses 'piss porr' Fasthosts. They use to be good but have had a bad reputation of late.

I would advise anybody to use a Linux hosting account, coupled with the relevant shopping cart of course :)

Supreme Dalek22 Sep 2007 5:48 a.m. PST

re godaddy.com – I would advise using one of their re-sellers instead. You get a better personal service. Try gem3.com The chap there is called Dave, and provides a prompt service. I register all my domains with him.

Do not use CI Host, they are utter crap!!
