Am I going senile or was there a superhero rpg called Underground? Seem to remember it reminded me of the Marshal Law comics for some reason. If I'm not going senile is it still available? Cheers, Mick |

Yup, Underground. Kind of a dark humor super hero game. The demo one year at GenCon was fun. But I never played it after being put off by the fluff. link Rod |

It was a game and a good one at that. I used to play it every other week with my group in high school. I thought the fluff was pretty neat, it was about a dystopian future where everything is screwed up and there are all these superpowered veterans running around with delusions due to their super powers and war experience and psycho-programming. For the early 90's it was pretty ahead of it's time in the tech level, but I would imagine that much of the tech has become common place today. The game was set only 13 years in the future, or there abouts from now. |

Put out by Mayfair Games, no less. Edgy and brutal in topic and execution (no pun intended). You can still buy the PDFs at rpgnow.com or Mayfair's reborn website, I believe. |

Did "Necessary Evil" ever come out? IIRC, the premise was that all of the "good" SuperHeroes were destroyed, so it was up to the "bad" superheroes to save the world

One of the current rages over on RPG.net is for Godlike and Wild Talents
a couple of superhero games set in a gritty 'real world' setting. Fairly dark stuff overall. Godlike is the WWII era and Wild Talents is modern day in the same background universe. Not really at all like Underground but I thought I'd mention them

I played Godlike. A friend was really into it. I though it would have been better had the super hero powers were toned down slightly in it. So, for example, if people had been able to be invisible and had super strength or could fly instead of being able to turn into dragons and such. They could do all the stuff on the first list, of course, but the powers seemed like they got a little out of control. It's been a few years (probably three or four) since I played. |

For dark super heroes, White Wolf's Aberrant is tough to beat. There are different super group conspiracies, some of the power trees are a bit macabre, and every last hero is dying due to the node in their brain that gives them their powers. Also, fluff-wise, the surviving heroes start mutating horribly and are kicked off of the planet only to return later as the villains for Aeon -- I mean Trinity! This last bit is set *after* the standard campaign arc, but it adds to the whole bleak thing it has going. I'm quite sure the guys that came up with Heroes read Aberrant thoroughly. |

I had heard that mentioned about Godlike
that the powers are a sometimes a bit whimsical and mighty considering the 'gritty' street level action it seems to want to focus on
