During a very recent trip to Texas for a wedding I had the privilege to visit the Anti-Aircraft Museum at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. I went there to do research on the US 90mm AA guns, primarily the early M-1 version, for a project I am working on for a business acquaintance.

Prior to visiting I contacted Maryann Neubert, the Museum's Registrar, who did an excellent job of providing information and directing me to the correct displays, etc., making our visit more efficient than I had dreamed possible. She was also kind enough to provide copies of many of her file photos detailing most of the WW2 AA equipment in the US arsenal, as well as many excellent photos of captured equipment. The museum has an original "AfrikaKorps" 88mm gun on display, as well as most of the equipment used during the war and since, plus some from WW1.

She also provided a complete series of photos detailing our defense of the bridge at Ramagan which provided some interesting insights.

Anyone who has any interest in this slice of military history need only visit the Museum to understand the importance of ADA in WW2 and since.

There is also a very good "gift shop" within the museum with hand made wooden models of much of the current ADA arsenal in stock for the collector, all of which are locally made and of excellent quality.

I haven't been there in a verrrrry long time, but I agree that it's really a great museum.

When I redeployed back through Fort Bliss a couple of months ago I made a point to get to he museum. Very nice displays, with more still under construction.

I also enjoyed my trip there, but I was hoing they'd let me in for free on account of my name. ;-)

Huh! Light bulb goes off over head! When I was a teenager (back in the 1960's) we visited my older brother when he was stationed at Fort Bliss. He was in the Air Defense Artillery. Perhaps there's a connection!

I wonder if they're going to leave the ADA museum at Fort Bliss when the ADA school moves to Fort Sill. I think the Armor museum is staying at Fort Knox when the Armor school moves to Fort Benning.
